Curved Radiators and Segmented Radiators

Panel radiators can be factory curved or field curved to follow architectural walls. Concave and convex curves are possible. Field curved radiators suit larger curvatures, for example in auditoriums, lobbies, and cafeterias. This is a very cost-effective way to heat the perimeter of a curved building. Only single panel models can be field curved. The minimum radius of field curved radiators is 15′ with a minimum length of 15′. Factory curved radiators are used for smaller curves, such as bay windows or tight curves found in fine homes or historic buildings. Factory curved radiators have a maximum length of 20′ for non-finned radiators and 16′ for finned models. Their minimum radius is 5′ for non-finned models, and 10′ for finned models. Some double panel models can be factory curved.
 

Segmented Radiators

One-piece, factory segmented radiators can be ordered to fit bay windows. This creates a more finished look compared to three separate panels. The maximum angle of the bend is 135 degrees, as measured from face to face of the adjoining radiator segments.

Mounting Systems

Wall mounting is the easiest way to install curved or segmented Runtal Radiators. These radiators are specially made with the proper bracketing required for a smooth- looking installation. Runtal recommends wall blocking and lockdown brackets for curved radiators to ensure secure mounting. Segmented Runtal Radiators are easily wall mounted with standard brackets, included with each order.

Floor Mounting along a curved wall is an alternative way to install Runtal Radiators. Floor mount brackets are specially manufactured to match the radiators in both quality workmanship and color. Floor Mounting is a cost effective way to install radiators along curved glass walls or other applications where wall mounting is not an option. General notes on FIELD curving: Ordering notes for FIELD curving:

 

 Shaded Radiator models may present an onsite handling problem. Site conditions and manpower availability must be considered prior to ordering these models.
It is generally advisable to have a minimum of 3 persons available for installation of field curved radiators.
Please note that when curving to a radius of less than 20′, the radius of the radiator ends will vary slightly from the radiator as a whole. Therefore, care in job planning, and flexibility in radiator piping are essential.
The radiator must be ordered by arc length
All field curved Radiators require clip or strap mounting
Specify additional mounting locations and hardware (Option #50). To calculate the number of additional mounting locations required, simply double the normal number and subtract one. For example, a 20′ radiator would normally require 9 positions and brackets.
Lockdown brackets are advised for all curved radiator installations
(a minimum of 1 on each end and 1 in the middle).

Factory curving is not exact, therefore, there will be some “fitting to the curve” required in the field.
 
Please note that when curving to a radius of less than 20′, the radius of the radiator ends will vary slightly from the radiator as a whole. Therefore, care in job planning, and flexibility in radiator piping are essential.
 
The radiator must be ordered by arc length.
 
The radius of curvature of the radiator must be specified (deflection is helpful if known)
 
High pressure steel must be specified (Option #57).
 
Factory curving must be specified (Option #54).
 
Lockdown brackets are advised for all curved radiator installations
(a minimum of 1 on each end and 1 in the middle).
